Club Description
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, was founded and developed by the Gracie family. Its roots are derived from several sources, including pre-war Kodokan Judo and western wrestling. An aim of BJJ is to bring an opponent to the ground and then use grappling techniques (including holds, armlocks, chokes, leglocks, and sometimes strikes) to cause a submission. It is sometimes described as Bposition first, then submission.B This strategy lessens the advantages of weight, size, strength, or superior striking ability.
BJJ is an excellent form of self-defense, and is used in Vale Tudo (Banything goesB) competitions, such as Pride and UFC.
