Club Description
The Brandeis Kokondo Academy teaches Jukido Jujitsu and Kokondo Karate, traditional Japanese Martial Arts emphasizing practical, effective self-defense, fun and safety. Previous martial arts experience is welcome but not necessary. Now in its 16th year, Kokondo is the oldest continuously active martial arts club at Brandeis and is taught by a team of 10 male and female internationally certified black belt instructors, including Sensei Dan Cohen '91, 4th Degree Black Belt (Jujitsu & Karate). We emphasize realistic self-defense and always doing one's best--not competition or tournaments. More than 2000 Brandeis students have practiced Kokondo self-defense techniques since 1988, and many have gone on to teach at other universities around the world. Our classes for beginners are Monday & Wednesday nights from 7:30pm - 9:00pm conveniently located up on campus in the gym or in Usdan. Please visit www.kokondo.com for more information about Kokondo Self-Defense at Brandeis, or contact our Vice President, Peter Macko, at pmacko at brandeis dot edu.
This is a chartered club. That means that it can use University resources and can request funding from the Finance Board.
