Club Description
The Brandeis Seirenkai Karate & Jujitsu Academy teaches two traditional Japanese Martial Arts emphasising practical, effective self-defense, fun and safety. Previous martial arts experience is welcome but not necessary. Now in its 24th year at Brandeis, Seirenkai (formerly called Kokondo) is the oldest continuously active martial arts club at Brandeis and is taught by a team of male and female internationally certified black belt instructors, including Master Dan Cohen '91, 5th Degree Black Belt and Sensei Steve Lisauskas, 4th Degree Black Belt. We emphasise realistic self-defense and always doing one's best--not competition or tournaments. More than 2500 Brandeis students have practised Seirenkai self-defense techniques since 1987, and many have gone on to teach at other universities around the world. Our classes are Monday & Wednesday nights from 7:30pm - 9:30pm at the Levine Ballroom at Usdan. Please visit www.seirenkai.com for more information about Seirenkai Self-Defense at Brandeis and visit our International Seirenkai Organization Facebook Page. This Brandeis club is sanctioned by the World HQ of the International Seirenkai Organization. For more information, contact us at: seirenkai@gmail.com
This is a chartered club. That means that it can use University resources and can request funding from the Finance Board.
