In 2006 under fourth-year head coach Michelle Kim, Brandeis won its first-ever ECAC Division III New England crown. The top-seeded Judges swept No. 3 seeded Colby Sawyer College, 3-0, in Red Auerbach Arena. With the win, the Judges completed a perfect season at home, going 10-0 and losing just one game in the process. It was their fifth ECAC tournament appearance and was the second time in the finals. At the end of the 2005-06 school year, the Judges were named an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Academic Team, boasting a cumulative grade-point average well above the 3.3 required to make that list. With their entire roster slated to return in 2007, including All-UAA selections in outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach '09 and middle Piera Carfagno '10, Coach Kim's squad looks to be one of the most improved on campus. Senior libero Shannon Trees, who earned UAA Defensive Player of the Week honors last season, and junior setter Violette Ruggiero, an All-Tournament selection at the prestigious Hall of Fame Invitational, will serve as captains in 2008.

Michelle Kim enters her third season as head coach of the Brandeis University volleyball team. She was appointed head coach of volleyball in the summer of 2004 after five seasons as an assistant under Sheryl Sousa. A 1996 graduate of Binghamton University, Kim served as an assistant for two years at Stony Brook University before joining Sousa on the Brandeis staff in 1999. In that time, she helped lead the Judges to a 108-84 record over the past five seasons. The squad has made four ECAC tournament appearances in that time, including a 27-15 record and a berth in the ECAC finals in 2003, tying the school record for wins in a season. As a player under Sousa from 1993-96, Kim was a four-year starter and two-year captain. She helped Binghamton to its first-ever conference title and NCAA appearance, reaching the New York Regional semifinals. Kim, who also serves as Brandeis’s business manager, is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association who has served as a representative in the New England Women’s Volleyball Association regional poll.
