Intramurals: An Overview

Overview

Intramural Sports are designed to provide the Brandeis community with an opportunity to participate in organized recreational competition. Structured leagues and tournaments are offered in a variety of sports and activities. Events are coordinated and supervised by athletic staff. Team sport games are officiated by student employees. Team sports require a $20 league entry fee. Individual sports and tournaments are free events. All participants are subject to intramural rules and policies. Please see the Intramural Calendar for a list of sports offered and event deadlines.

How do I sign up?

Team Sports

  1. Pick up information sheets, rules, and roster/entry forms at the front desk in the Gosman Sports Center.
  2. Fill in the roster/entry form completely, including team name, captain’s name and contact info, players’ names, and any notes about scheduling. Be sure to include each player’s Brandeis ID number. Team names must be approved by the Athletic Department. Please keep team names appropriate and inoffensive. Fraternities and sororities are not recognized by the University; therefore, Greek team names will not be allowed.
  3. Return completed roster/entry forms and the $20 entry fee to the Athletic Office by the entry deadline. Sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis. Gym and field space are limited. Some leagues may close prior to the deadline. Do not wait until the last day to enter teams. Late entries will be put on a waitlist and may or may not get in the league. NO GUARANTEES!
  4. Each team must be represented at the captains meeting. Important league information and game rules will be discussed. See “Captains’ Responsibilities”

Individual Sports
For individual sports and tournaments (tennis, squash, etc.), simply pick up information sheets and sign-up in the Athletic Office by the entry deadline. No entry fee is required for individual sports. Participants will be notified of the playing schedule prior to the tournament.

Free Agent List
Individuals who want to play a team sport, but are unable to find enough people to form a full team, can sign up on the “Free Agent List” in the Athletic Office. Although there are no guarantees, most “free agents” do end up joining a team. Typically, one of two things happen: 1) teams will need extra players and will contact individuals on the Free Agent List, or 2) all the individuals on the Free Agent List will get together and form one team.
