Men's cross country downs Bentley, 28-31, to open season
WESTON, Mass. – Cross-town rivals Brandeis and Bentley split their season-opening cross country meet today in a pair of narrow match-ups. The Brandeis men won 28-31, while the Bentley women squeaked out a 27-28 victory in the meet held at Weston High School.
On the men's side, Bentley senior Stephan Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas) broke the tape on the 6K course in a time of 20:02. Brandeis rookie Paul Norton (Amherst, Mass.) was impressive in his collegiate debut, finishing second in 20:15. The Falcons had the next two finishers in rookie Dan O'Connell (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Bergantino (Guilford, Conn.), who ran 20:18 and 20:20:28 respectively, but Brandeis runners took the next 11 spots to clinch the victory. Rookie Zach Schwartz (Newtown, Conn.) was the Judges' second finisher in fifth place with a time of 20:31, while sophomore Keith Thibeault (Hudson, N.H.) and rookie Mek Gendebo (Cambridge, Mass.) also broke 21 minutes for Brandeis.
