net usage tomorrow
I'm just curious about bandwidth for tomorrow's Goldstone/Gold forum. Can someone who know how to do these things reply here after the event with a small pile of stats?
How many viewers?
How many GB streamed over the server?
Distribution of viewer IPs across the country/world?
etc.
thanks

It looks like it's only being streamed on campus, so the stats wouldn't be that interesting. Is there an off-campus stream that I missed?

My understanding is that the webstream will be projected live in Schwartz Auditorium, but that any viewer anywhere can watch the proceedings from the /streaming page.

Hi,

I believe it's set so that if you are on-campus and go to to the streaming page it will open via IPTV. If you are off-campus the page will load a QuickTime streaming video.

If that turns out to be the only way, then there was a serious miscommunication between LTS/Communications and everyone else, in particular the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and other sites that link to /streaming/index.html as a way to watch this live.

why would that be a miscommunication?

Because if it's true that the stream is only available on-campus, those who are not here who thought they would be able to view the event would not have been properly communicated with.

no, that's not what was said above. The on-campus isn't streaming, it's IPTV'd. Off-campus *is* streamed. Semantics perhaps to you, bandwidth management for the techie side.

Upshot: everyone who wants to see it, on or off campus, ought to be able to.

Hi Gideon,

Sorry for any confusion. That's not what I meant. It is being streamed live both for on-campus and off-campus.

On-campus and off-campus are viewed by different sources using the same URL (it's automatic / behind-the-scenes).

Sorry for any confusion!
Ian

Try contacting the communications office? Or the media services department?
