horrible reception on cordless phone

I have a 2.4ghz cordless phone. The static is so bad I usually can't understand the other person. Changing the channel sometimes helps a little, but never enough.

What's causing the problem, and is there a way to fix it? Other people with cordless phones have fine reception....

Thanks

I'd bet you have a cheap analog cordless phone which does not have spread-spectrum or "frequency hopping" technologies. Best solution, buy a better phone ;)

Try borrowing a friend's phone and use it in your phonejack. Or, use your phone in a friend's jack. It's possible that the jack itself is water- (or otherwise-) damaged.

Of course, if that doesn't work, it could also be your phone; but then, I use a dirt cheap cordless and get good reception in East (which seems it would be reception-hostile).
