Poker! |
| On a similar note to "Kickball," I didn't see a posting for a poker club on the "activities page." Is it easy to start up a club (and would there be a lot of interest for a relatively low-stakes, yet one hundred percent intense) poker group meeting irregularly? |

I believe that poker is listed on the clubs page. I'm always looking for a good game of holdem so definitely count me in.

Oops, there already is one. My zealousness gets in the way of levelheadedness again.

I signed up for it awhile ago and haven't gotten any emails or anything... maybe it's not active? Anyway I'm definitely all in.

That sounds totally sweet - I don't know if we'd want to bet anything or how hardcore we'd want it to be. I'm sure that coming off of this summer's nonstop Celebrity Poker Showdown stuff there'd be a lot of people into it : )

Lately, I have been sooo obsessed with the Celebrity Poker Showdown. They're starting a new round- have u seen the commercials with Dave Navarro? My money is on him. I was hoping that Michael Ian Black would win the last tournament b/c he's soo funny on VH1's I Love the 80's, but oh well. SO yeah, we have to def play some poker during orientation- im me at QuirkyGurl17 so we can discuss.

Yeah, if there's ever a lull in orientation let's just all IM each other, tell people, get something going [I'm carrot rope 13]... I find poker's like bowling in that you can simultaneously love to do it and get really excited for it, but suck at at, so maybe using real money isn't a great idea. Maybe we can wager abstract "getting to know you" things like kindness, and friendship. And yeah, I was definately taken aback when Michael Ian Black lost in CPS.

CPS is a waste of time. You can't learn from watching non-professionals! World Poker Tour is where it's at, Wednesday nights on the Travel Channel. But anyways... I joined the poker club as soon as I saw it. Looks great, I love holdem. I'm bringing my small set of chips (11.5-gram striped dice) to Deis, along with my table. Jeremy, let me know what kind of chips you've got. I do like playing socially, but for any good game to get going, money is clutch. :-) If anyone knows the relevant laws in Massachusetts, let me know. I live here and I have no idea what's legal! We've definitely gotta get games going, though. Absolutely essential to the college experience. Besides, we need to make laundry/sushi money somehow. sn: JRules860

WPT is great but I find I learn more from CPS since me and the people I'm playing with are closer to the celebrities in skill than we are to the world champions. If any of you start playing without IMing me first, I'm gonna be pissed. :) AIM: Timmerish

There are lots of poker games on campus. Obviously the higher the buy in or limit the harder it is to find.

This just in! |
| Hey all. I stopped by Deis yesterday and found a place on Moody Street nearby called "The Compleat Gamester" (gogameroom.com). For those in the know, they sell nice tables, chips (midlevel, like diamonds and dicestripe, and sometimes have really nice $1.50/each clay chips) and the all-important KEM cards. The prices there are okay, we can find better ones online, but if we need some chips or cards in a pinch, that's probably the place. Holdem for life, kids. Peace.

President of the Poker Club |
| Hey everyone. Glad to see you're excited about coming to school and playing cards. My suitmate and I started the Brandeis Poker Club with two weeks left to school so we didn't have time to be active (with finals and such) but you can bet there will be a lot of events going on this semester. We're planning to hold tutorials to educate students on proper play (we'll have books on poker available for people to reference), show movies like Rounders, get together weekly for programs like the WPT and WSOP, and best of all, our club's constitution mandates at least one school wide poker tournament per month. Should be a lot of fun. Any questions you're more than welcome to e-mail poker -AT- brandeis.edu. - Donnie

I just purchased 500 11.5 gram clay chips thru amazon.com for $79.99 + $12.99 s/h. It's a dice design... comes in an aluminum case with 5 dice and 2 decks of cards. Definitely get them online. They are CHEAP! Try ebay too if you like... probably even cheaper there. Anyhow, I'll definitely be willing to host poker nights... I'll be in East Quad, Pomerantz 514.
