Club Description

I. Purpose and Methods of Realizing Said Objectives a. The purpose of Gen Ed Now is to fulfill the growing demand for speakers on campus. The club’s goals are to educate and inspire the campus on contemporary issues that are or should be at the fore of the national and global consciousness. The club seeks to create an environment in which speakers can discuss their ideas on a broad range of topics, from sustainable development to modern currents in film, in an academic forum. By creating personal and meaningful interactions for a group of students with speakers on the issues, the club will create a lasting legacy that will be seen in a more informed student body on the topics discussed and increased civic action. In addition to bringing in its own speakers, Gen Ed Now seeks to organize the resources that exist within the University by working with various departments, offices, and clubs, to create interesting and enriching speakers discussions. With those goals in mind, the club will enhance Brandeis’ reputation as an institution of scholarship, leadership, and forward thinking. Gen Ed Now will be non-partisan. b. Gen Ed Now intends to achieve its purpose by hosting 2-4 speaker series or forums per semester. The forums will include speakers from a wide range of disciplines giving individual perspectives on a specific issue. These conferences could include topics such as global warming, foreign democratic movements, and political satire. The club would hold meetings in preparation for these events in order to fundraise, organize the event, and inform its members and the campus about the speakers and the issues they will discuss. The club will also hold meetings after these speaker forums to debrief what was discussed with faculty advisors and publish compilations of speeches/minutes of conference. c. Gen Ed Now hopes to resurrect the spirit of Gen Ed S (General Education Senior) through hosting informative and entertaining speakers series.

This is a chartered club. That means that it can use University resources and can request funding from the Finance Board.
