Q: What's this all about?
A: Advice for putting your computer affairs in order when you graduate, find a real job, or otherwise leave Brandeis. The intended main audience is the set of Life Science graduate students and post-docs, but others may conceivably find it useful.

Q: What about my data?
A: My advice. Make three (3) copies of all your data. Distribute those copies as follows:
- Give your advisor one
- Leave one in the lab
- Take (at least) one with you
The most practical method for doing this is to make CDs. If practical, it's nice to make hybrid format (HFS/Joliet/Rock Ridge/ISO9660) CDs so that you can conveniently read them from Macs, Windows, and *nix computers.

A: Visit the UNet Mail Options page and change the "Mail Delivery Address".

Q: How long do I have before my UNet account expires?
A: I don't know if there's a firm policy yet. My best understanding is that student, graduate student, postdoc, and faculty accounts expire
"at the end of the calendar year following graduation or termination"
while staff accounts may expire much more quickly following termination.
If you require a more definitive answer, try asking the question in the Tech Support Q&A forum

Q: How long before my PPP account expires?
A: Hard to tell, I usually clean out the Life Sciences PPP server database about once a year.
If you have a legitimate need to use the PPP server after leaving (e.g. you're taking time at home with the baby), e-mail me and we'll work something out.

Q: Is there a Life Science-specific alumni mailing list?
A: Yes, but it doesn't get much use right now. You could sign up for it and start a trend, though.

Q: Does anyone else want to have my new e-mail address?
A: Yes, I do, especially if you were ever supported on a training grant.
Periodically we must submit competitive renewals of training grants, and it helps significantly if we can contact you and ask what you're up to, if you've published anything stemming from your research at Brandeis since you've left, etc.
So please drop me an e-mail telling me your new e-mail address.
