Special Collections Spotlight's latest entry showcases material from our Walt Whitman collection, recently on display as a one-day Show & Tell exhibit. Items include early editions of Leaves of Grass, a proof sheet of "Passage to India," and a letter in Whitman's own hand. Much of the collection was donated to Brandeis by Mitchell Slobodek, one of Brandeis’s early benefactors; several items came to us via the legacy of Professor Milton Hindus, one of the university’s thirteen original faculty members and a renowned Whitman scholar. Have a look at the Spotlight for details on Whitman's work and our collection, written by Brandeis graduate student (and curator of the Whitman Show & Tell) Daniel V. Donatacci of the English and American Literature department.
Special Collections Spotlight provides a close online look at rare and fascinating individual items from the special collections of Brandeis Libraries, including unique manuscripts, rare books, and unusual ephemera.
