Use of Internet Explorer 7 at Brandeis
Released on November 06, 2006
Contact: LTS TechDesk (itservice@brandeis.edu)
Although Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7 last week as a critical Update, LTS does not recommend installing Internet Explorer 7 on computers used to access official Brandeis web sites. Web based systems such as Peoplesoft (SAGE, HR, and Finance), WebCT, and the VPN web interface (via wormhole.brandeis.edu) may not work properly when accessed using Internet Explorer 7. Although LTS has made changes that delay the automatic download of Internet Explorer 7 and protect most of the computers used on campus by faculty & staff, computers used on campus by undergraduates and graduate students, as well as off-campus computers, are still at risk. LTS recommends the continued use of Firefox and Internet Explorer 6 where appropriate. Our recommendation to avoid Internet Explorer 7 extends to computers off-campus that will be used to conduct Brandeis business. Once Internet Explorer 7 has gained the support of the vendors that provide our major systems, or replaces Internet Explorer 6 due to security concerns, LTS will withdraw this recommendation.
LTS has provided instructions if you wish to prevent installation of Internet Explorer 7 or remove Internet Explorer 7 once installed. For additional information and support, please contact the Techdesk at x6-7782 or email itservice@brandeis.edu.
