In an editorial on the capture of Saddam Hussein The Boston Globe cites the work of Kanan Makiya. With the capture, Makiya is being widely sought by the media, including CNN and the FOX News Network, for his expertise about the now-deposed Iraqi dictator. Makiya, the Sylvia K. Hassenfeld Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at Brandeis, rose to prominence with his book Republic of Fear, published in 1990, which looks at Hussein's rule of Iraq.
