Award-winning Hollywood producer Marshall Herskovitz ’73, whose credits include the movies “The Last Samurai,” “Traffic” and “I am Sam” and the TV series “thirtysomething” and “My So-Called Life,” has been elected president of the Producers Guild of America.

Herskovitz, who had been the guild’s vice president of television, will serve a two-year term. “It’s extremely exciting for me and a really exciting time for the Producers Guild,” he said of being elected president.

The Producers Guild of America was established in 1950 and has more than 2,700 members and affiliate members who work in motion pictures, television, and new media worldwide.

Herskovitz, who received the Brandeis Alumni Achievement Award in 1993, will return to campus during Brandeis Alumni Making a Difference (BAMD! ’06): The Alumni Leadership Retreat on Oct. 20-22. He will be the keynote speaker on Oct. 21.

All alumni are invited to attend BAMD! ’06 for a weekend of networking, inspiration, and entertainment. Other weekend speakers include Walt Mossberg ’69, who writes the weekly Personal Technology column in The Wall Street Journal; and Brandeis senior administrators, who will provide attendees with an update on the groundbreaking developments on campus.
