Keeping your computer secure

• Think twice before installing software
• Keep antivirus software up to date
• Configure your computer to avoid automatic execution of downloads
• Keep operating system software up to date (Windows Update, MacOS Software Update)
• Make sure accounts have secure passwords
• don't write your password down next to your computer
• Don't work as "administrator" unless you need to
• keep your computer physically secure
• difference between locking computer and logging off (win NT/2000)
• make sure all accounts have passwords (esp. administrator accounts)
• securing files from local and remote access (?)
